HOISZN is a quarterly art and design magazine based in Naarm/Melbourne, dedicated to celebrating the talents of Asian-Australian creatives. Independently created, designed, and produced, HOISZN seeks to amplify perspectives that enrich our cultural landscape.

Available digitally and in limited print runs, HOISZN magazines include articles, interviews and On Dizplay—a gallery section that showcases the latest work from Asian-Australian creatives.

We collaborate closely with artists, writers, creatives, businesses, and organisations to bolster our presence and create opportunities and spaces for members of our community to thrive. We’re passionate about fostering creative talent, celebrating heritage, and redefining the future of Asian-Australian art and culture.

HOISZN was founded by Dan Truong—a digital designer who wanted to sharpen his publication design skills. Inspired by the vibrant Asian-Australian community he connected with through uni social clubs, Dan created HOISZN as a way to spotlight the creative work of his friends and peers—turning a solo side-project into a collective celebration.

Our journey began in May 2023, with months dedicated to building our foundation. In December of the same year, we proudly launched HOISZN 001 The Introductory Issue. Since then, we have showcased the work of more than 50 talented artists and featured over 100 artworks across our publications.

A space for all Asian-Australian creatives

When we say Asian, we’re not just referring to East and South East Asian people, who often occupy the spotlight in conversations about the Asian community. HOISZN believes that we have a duty to fairly represent the entirety of the Asian diaspora community, inclusive of South Asians and people of mixed-race who are often sidelined from conversations about the community.
